There's a version of this spoon that Gabe Rudolph hunted for in flea markets for years. The one with the perfect bowl depth. The right length. The tip that actually pointed somewhere useful instead of being a rounded afterthought. He couldn't find it, so he built it.

The 01 is Gestura's flagship. Its bowl holds exactly one tablespoon, not as a party trick, but because cooks measure ratios constantly and reaching for a separate measuring spoon is a small friction that adds up. Make a vinaigrette: use the 01 to measure, mix, and pour. Done. One tool, one rinse.

The bowl is deep enough to carry a real volume of liquid for basting. The tip is pointed, which means you can place a sauce where you mean to place it, not approximately in the direction of a plate. The flared lip gets into the corners of a pan or storage container. The handle is 9 inches: long enough for a deep pot, nimble enough for a finishing pass on a dish.

The finish is tumbled and unpolished, matte, slightly imperfect, the way a well-loved piece of vintage steel looks. Made in Niigata on presses that once made flatware for Pan Am. Hand-finished in Mr. Okada's workshop.
