How the Fundraiser Works
Your school earns money two ways, through physical kit distribution and through your school's online link. Most schools do both.
Kit Distribution
Your school earns $10 per completed order- Sharpow ships a box of kits to your school (20, 40, or 60 based on school size)
- Your PTO distributes kits to families, backpacks, table, or office pickup
- Families take the kit home, go online, enter their box ID, and pay for sharpening (starting at $59 for up to 4 items) They'll receive $10 off their order with their kit in hand
- Families pack their knives, seal the kit, and mail it
- Sharp knives return to their home address and happy cooking ensues
School Link
Your school earns $5 per order- Your school receives a unique code + unique link for parents/families to use on sharpow.com
- Share the link via email, social media, newsletters, morning announcements and more
- Families who didn't pick up a kit (or friends, grandparents, neighbors) order directly and a kit ships to their home
- They sharpen and ship on their own
- Your school earns $5 of every order placed through the link
What Your School Can Earn
Earnings depend on how many families participate. Here's a realistic example for a 25-kit program:

Safety: No Knives at School
Knives never come to school. Everything ships from the family's home and returns to the same address.
PTOs distribute shipping kits. No blades are exposed at any point during distribution because there are none involved.
All sharpening is done by trained technicians at Vivront's shop in Edina, Minnesota. Knives are returned in tested and custom designed protective packaging.
About Vivront + the School Lunch Mission
Vivront is a kitchen knife shop at 50th & France in Edina, Minnesota. We've sharpened thousands of knives from our shop and through Sharpow, our national mail-in sharpening service. The name comes from the French future plural for "they will live." When we sharpen knives, they live on.
A protion of every sharpening order goes toward improving school lunch for kids, reducing unpaid meal debt and supporting better food in partner districts. This fundraiser connects both: families get sharp knives, kids get better lunches, and PTOs raise money without running an event.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do knives ever come to school?
No. Families mail knives from home and receive them back at the same home address. The PTO only handles sealed sharpening kits.
What does sharpening cost families?
Starting at $59 for up to 4 items, kitchen knives, serrated blades, and scissors. Postage is included. Most families spend $59–$89 depending on how many items they send.
How long does sharpening take?
Knives are typically returned to homes within 5–10 business days of Sharpow receiving them. They are the workshop for 24-hours. School program orders ship via USPS Ground Advantage.
Is there a minimum order for our school?
The smallest program is 20 kits. Your Sharpow rep will recommend 20, 40, or 60 kits based on your school size.
What does the PTO champion get?
A free Sharpow kit and complimentary sharpening for up to 4 items. The champion experiences the service and becomes the program's advocate.
Can we run this more than once a year?
Yes. In many cases a fall campaign and a spring campaign make sense. Knives dull over time.
How does the school link work?
Your school gets a branded page on sharpow.com. Any family that orders through that link earns your school $5 of their order. The link stays active during your campaign window.
