Terms of Service
Knife Sharpening Terms of Service
Effective Date: 12/15/25 (last update)
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern all knife sharpening services provided by Vivront (“Vivront,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), whether performed in-store, by mail, or through third-party drop-off or pickup locations. By submitting knives for sharpening or otherwise engaging our services, you (“Customer,” “you,” or “your”) agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Assumption of Risk
Knives are inherently sharp tools and carry an inherent risk of injury or damage.
By engaging our services, you voluntarily assume all risks associated with:
- Transporting knives to and from Vivront
- Packing, unpacking, handling, and storing knives
- Using knives before or after sharpening, whether sharp, dull, or in transition
- Any third-party handling, including carriers, retailers, or intermediaries
You acknowledge that sharpening changes the condition of a knife and may increase sharpness, which increases the risk of injury if handled improperly.
2. Shipping, Transport, and Loss
For mail-in or shipped orders:
- Vivront ships completed orders via USPS Priority Mail, which includes up to $100 of carrier-provided insurance by default.
- The included insurance applies only to loss or damage occurring while in the custody of the carrier and is subject to USPS terms, conditions, and claims processes.
- Vivront is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage occurring during shipping beyond the limits of carrier-provided insurance.
- Any claims related to shipping loss or damage must be pursued through USPS. Vivront may assist with documentation but is not responsible for claim outcomes.
- Customer is solely responsible for proper packaging of knives when shipping to Vivront.
- Title and risk of loss remain with the Customer during transit to Vivront and pass back to the Customer upon tender to the carrier for return shipment.
3. Condition of Knives
By submitting knives, you represent that you are the lawful owner of the knives or authorized to submit them for service, and that the knives are safe to handle under normal professional conditions. You agree to disclose any known defects, cracks, excessive wear, or prior damage.
Vivront is not responsible for:
- Breakage or failure caused by pre-existing defects
- Cosmetic changes inherent to sharpening (including scratches, finish changes, or patina alteration)
- Loss of maker marks or aesthetic features near the edge
- The knives or the value of the knives you choose to have sharpened.
4. Nature of Sharpening Services
Knife sharpening involves material removal and permanent alteration of the blade edge. Results can vary based on blade geometry, steel type, heat treatment, prior sharpening history, and current condition.
By engaging our services, you acknowledge and agree that:
- Exact outcomes cannot be guaranteed
- Edge retention, sharpness level, and performance vary by use and care
- Minor variations in bevel height, symmetry, or finish are normal and are not defects
All services are performed using professional judgment and best practices.
5. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- Vivront shall not be liable for any injury, loss, or damage arising from or related to the handling or use of knives before or after sharpening.
- Vivront’s total liability, if any, shall not exceed the amount paid for the specific sharpening service giving rise to any claim.
- Vivront is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages (including lost profits, lost use, or personal injury claims arising from use).
6. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Vivront, its owners, employees, and agents from any claims, injuries, damages, liabilities, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to:
- Your handling or use of knives
- Improper packaging or transport
- Third-party actions during shipping or handling
7. Abandoned Property
Knives not picked up or claimed within 90 days of service completion may, at our discretion, be considered abandoned and may be disposed of or donated without compensation.
8. Refusal of Service
Vivront reserves the right to refuse service for any knife that is unsafe to handle, unlawful to possess, or unsuitable for sharpening in our professional judgment.
9. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
10. Acceptance of Terms
By submitting knives for sharpening, scheduling service, or completing a transaction with Vivront, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms of Service.
