Cutco Knife Sharpening

Posted by Joseph Rueter on

Yes, we sharpen Cutco knives. Straight-edge and serrated.

Most sharpeners turn Cutco away, especially the serrated blades. That's ok. But, we don't. We work with the geometry that's already in the blade to restore a working edge. We're not cutting new serrations. We're sharpening what's there. For most serrated Cutco knives that haven't been heavily damaged, that's enough to bring them back to meaningful performance.

Straight-edge Cutcos are straight forward. We treat them the same way we treat any quality American kitchen knife, methodically, to an angle that performs, by hand.

Drop Off in Edina — Same Day

Bring your Cutcos to 4948 France Ave S, Edina, MN 55410. Drop off by 2pm Tuesday through Saturday and they're ready the same day. Our 24/7 dropbox is on the back of the building if your schedule doesn't match — no appointment needed but accepted on our location page.

Pricing

  • Straight-edge Cutco kitchen knife: $12
  • Serrated Cutco blade: $17
  • Cutco scissors or shears: $17
  • Chip removal or tip repair: $6 add-on
  • 7 or more knives: free canvas knife roll included

What to Expect

Cutco uses a softer stainless steel than most Japanese or high-carbon blades. That's OK, it sharpens and performs well in a home kitchen. After service, expect stronger performance with regular use. Plan on bringing them back every 6 to 12 months, based on use and desired sharpness.

Serrated Cutco blades after sharpening won't be factory-new. Yet, they'll be noticeably sharper than they were, and better than most expect from a blade they assumed was done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you sharpen Cutco knives?

Yes. We sharpen both straight-edge and serrated Cutco knives at our shop in Edina, MN.

Does Cutco still sharpen their knives for free?

Yes, as far as we know, Cutco's Forever Guarantee covers free factory sharpening with a return shipping fee. Near as we can tell, that is a two-to-three week round trip. If you're in the Twin Cities and want it done this week, we're the local alternative.

Where can I get my Cutco knives sharpened near me?

In the Twin Cities, Vivront at 4948 France Ave S, Edina is a dedicated knife sharpening shop that accepts Cutco's serrated blades (what Cutco calls the Double-D edge). Same-day service available Tuesday through Saturday.

How much does it cost to sharpen Cutco knives?

At Vivront: $12 for straight-edge blades, $17 for serrated blades. No minimum order. However, if you have 7 or more sharpened we'll include our Vivront knife roll for transportation free of charge.

How often should Cutco knives be sharpened?

For regular home use, once every 6 to 12 months, based on use and desired sharpness. If the knife is pulling or tearing instead of slicing cleanly, then it's time.

What Cutco knives can't be sharpened here?

If the blade has significant chips, a bent tip, or the serrations are heavily worn down, factory service might be the better call. We'll tell you upfront if that's the case. We can typically repair chips and bent tips, etc.
