Guacamole Verde Recipe | A Safer Way to Cut Avocados

CUT FORWARD RECIPE SERIES · 013, Via Nixta MPLS

Guacamole Verde, Cut Forward

A sharper, more predictable way to prep avocados for game day and beyond.

Glass bowl of guacamole with avocado, lime, onion, and nuts on a wooden board.

If you’re here from KARE 11: this is the exact cut sequence + recipe from the segment.

The cut sequence

The goal is control. A sharp knife follows your intent; a dull one forces extra pressure and can slip. Keep the avocado stable and move in a simple progression:

  1. Hemispheres: Cut around the pit, twist, and separate.
  2. Quarters: Place the pit half flat-side down, then cut into quarters.
  3. Slices: Slice the quarters cleanly, consistent spacing.
  4. Sticks: Stack slices and cut lengthwise.
  5. Cubes: Turn the sticks and cut across.

Small note: keep your off-hand above the board and out of the blade’s path. Let the knife shape do more work than you.

Why this recipe works

  • Gentle mash keeps texture (not baby food).
  • Lime brings brightness and keeps the avocado tasting fresh.
  • Salt doesn’t just add flavor, it tightens everything up.
  • Tomatillo + queso fresco finish it without overcomplicating it.
