All right, how to cut a mango. They've got a seed that kind of looks like an almond that runs the long way. We like to cut a flat spot, trim the outside, trim the cheeks off, take the extras, and go from there. This is $3.99. This is $5.84. I think we're gonna end up with more.
So, a little flat spot. If you hold the [kitchen] knife like you would normally cut, it's a little harder to do this, but if you turn it to the side, you can create a peeler with just about any knife.
Now, [kitchen] knives that have more blade to spine height. They're thicker, top to bottom. Don't turn quite as easily for folks, so you might move down to a utility knife or a paring knife for this, if you'd like. The idea is to just remove that skin. And when you get to the bottom now, you might not have taken all of the pieces off.
The heel of the knife can be used, and you can turn the food into that. Nice sharp edge that you're working on. And now, think back to that seed being in the center. It's running this way. And so if you just cut right in the center, you're going to run into the seed. You can just go from the outside in, because our game is going to be to cut sticks and cubes.
out of this. Now you could come in and see, yep, yep, that's where the seed is. If you turn it, there's some color there, and you can skirt the knife along the side. This portion will tell you where the seed is versus not. And we like to call this the chef's share. But let's see what kind of, kind of pieces we get if we're cutting similar to what we have in the other container.
How much mango do we get? This is about what size we're dealing with. There we go. And then we've got a whole half on this side.
So this is $3.99. This is $5.84.
And you get a chef's share if you cut it yourself.
Enjoy!
Note, a usda study showed that we waste 21.2% of mangoes shipped to stores. It does not have to be that way.
