What We Don’t Sharpen
Some tools and materials are better handled elsewhere. To protect your knives and our equipment, we generally do not sharpen:
- Ceramic knives
- Knives with large cracks, deep chips, or broken blades that can’t be safely reshaped
- Certain decorative Damascus or etched blades where grinding could damage the pattern
- Single-bevel knives that require highly specialized regional techniques we don’t offer at scale
- Non-kitchen tools like lawnmower blades, axes, or scissors outside of kitchen shears
Unsure about a specific knife or tool? Send us a photo or ask via text at (952) 222-5336 and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
How Our Sharpening Process Works
- Order a kit or visit the shop. Choose mail-in sharpening or bring knives to our Edina store.
- We inspect each knife. We look at steel type, existing bevel, damage, and intended use.
- We sharpen with purpose. Using professional stones and machines, we restore a clean, consistent edge and finish by hand.
- We test and clean. Every knife is checked on cutting tests, wiped down, and prepared for pick-up or shipping.
- You cook better. Knives come back ready to glide through your normal cooking, not just a test tomato.
Every order helps improve school lunch in partner school districts. When you sharpen with Vivront, you’re supporting better kitchens and better communities.

Common Questions
Can I send multiple brands in the same mail-in kit?
Yes. Even if you buy a brand-specific kit, you can include other household and professional knives in the same box.
Do you change the way my knives feel?
Our goal is to restore performance, not change your knife’s personality. We respect original geometry while making the edge noticeably sharper and more consistent.
How often should I sharpen my kitchen knives?
For most home cooks, once or twice a year is enough, with light maintenance in between. Busy kitchens or very thin Japanese knives may benefit from more frequent service.
Is mail-in sharpening safe for my knives?
Yes. Our kits are designed for safe, USPS-compliant transport and include custom protection for each blade. Thousands of knives travel by mail every day; we simply give them better packaging.
What if I’m nearby?
You’re always welcome to drop off knives at our Edina shop. We’ll take it from there.
Ready to Enjoy Your Knives Again?
Whether it’s the knife you use every day or the one you’ve avoided because it’s so dull, we can bring it back. Choose mail-in sharpening or visit our Edina shop to get started.
